Poitiers , a Roman town of art and history

The town of Poitiers is steeped in architectural heritage from its illustrious past : the Saint Pierre cathedral, the Saint Jean baptistry and  the courthouse, former residence of the counts of Poitou and Dukes of Aquitaine.  The Rupert de Chièvres and Sainte Croix museums display archeological collections, paintings and sculptures signed Robin,Claudel...
You can also take a stroll along the lively backstreets in the old part of town or do some shopping.  The shops, cafés and bars are open all year round and you will often come across street enterainment which livens up the city.

Come along to small village market in the vineyards in Haut Poitou and taste the local produce:  Gamay, Gamay, Cabernet, Chardonnay and Sauvignon.
St Savin Abbey (Unesco world heritage)
This Roman abbey is listed a Unesco world heritage monument due to its incredible history and outstanding conservation of the painted decor dating back to 1100.
Montmorillon - a city devoted to writing and the book trade
Montmorillon is a unique place full of book shops.  Book collectors and enthusiasts will feel at home here.  And for a family trip, you just have to cross the 14th century bridge and a whole new universe awaits you...
Roc aux Sorciers cave
15000 years ago at Roc-aux-sorciers in Angles-sur-l'Anglin, prehistoric men sculpted a fresco on the sides of the cave.  A real  "Lascaux sculpture" which is 18 metres long depicting buffalos, ipex and horses as well as a few feminine representations.  You can discover this outstanding frieze in a village recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
